My Favorite Fall Weekend in Madison

My Favorite Fall Weekend in Madison
September 24, 2013 Visit Madison

There are just a few days left until my favorite fall weekend arrives.  I’m looking forward to shopping like crazy at Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art on Saturday & Sunday.

Last year, I found a fabulous handbag (huge) made out of repurposed leather goods.  The main part is made from an old leather skirt.  I’ve carried it all year and I love it.  I’m hoping that the exhibitor is back this year.

I could start the weekend early at Old Court Days on Friday.  They’ll be lots of vendors around the courthouse with a huge variety of choices.  I really like the fall themed items and dried floral arrangements and I might be able to check some people off my Christmas list.  But mostly, I’m shopping for ME.

On Friday night, Madison Main Street is having their Fourth Friday Art Jam and the streets will be hopping.  Many of the stores are having special activities:  Wine Tasting at Madison Apothecary seems like a good way to start the evening.  Then a leisurely stroll down the street for some killer shopping and entertainment.  Ending the evening at Gallery 115 for a little live music before heading home.  Maybe I should find time to get a bite at one of the local restaurants, too.

Saturday is definitely Chautauqua time.  Getting there early is a must for me because I want the best selections.  I’ll fuel up at the Food Fest along the riverfront – tons of choices and indulgences.  Before the day is over, I’ll wander over to the Harvest Festival for a glass of wine and a little look see.

After dinner at one of the downtown restaurants, I’m going to Music in the Park.  I hope I have room in the car for my chair.  This should give me the chance to relax and wind down after a hopefully successful shopping safari.

Did you think I was finished?  No way.  I’m back on Sunday to get all the things I loved and didn’t buy yesterday.  Nothing is worse than buyers’ remorse!  I do a quick run through and head to Madison Vineyards for Last Sunday.  Music, wine, & snacks to complete the perfect weekend.

I love Chautauqua weekend.  The streets are full of fun, happy people having a great time.  If you come to Madison this weekend, don’t be surprised to find me lurking on Main Street taking pictures.  It is my absolute favorite time to capture the vibe of downtown Madison.  See you there.
