The Magic of Madison Indiana stirs the soul, inspires its residents and visitors and attracts lovers from all ages. Sitting prominently at the bend of the Ohio River, Madison known for its breathtaking views of the limestone bluffs, a lively Main Street commercial district, and the largest contiguous National Historic Landmark District in the country. This huge collection of early 19th and 20th century district is tree-lined with public and private gardens throughout! A handheld walk through our streets is a great date with your sweetie, whether it’s a stroll downtown, along the lazy river, or a through one of the adjacent neighborhoods—there are plenty of creative offerings to share, all walkable and full of interesting attractions—including galleries, wineries & breweries, historic house museums and a thriving historic Main Street, making Madison the perfect romantic place to fall in love and stay in love!

Dinner for two?

Madison has so many options for romantic dining—eating “alfresco” is very popular on Main Street- or overlooking the Ohio River. Culinary treats abound with cafes, bakeries, restaurants and award-winning vinos and brews. Culinary options include two locally-owned breweries as well as two downtown wineries, and a number of live music venues and dining options ranging from upscale to casual that’s sure to please any palate. For those with a sweet tooth, we have a hand-crafted Chocolate Shop, FroYo, and other ice cream delicacies. In addition, there are options for quiet picnics along the river bank, located just a short two blocks from Madison’s Main Street.

Places to stay?

Madison offers an assortment of lodging options including bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, some with old world style and filled with antiques in grand historic homes and some brand new with gorgeous views—the choice is yours. To choose lodging a little off the beaten path, there are several cozy log cabins with fireplaces in the woods; a beautiful State Park Inn situated on bluffs overlooking the entire downtown historic district; and camping within the State Park and a city campground within walking distance of downtown and overlooking the Ohio River.

Why Madison?

Beautifully preserved, historic in nature, but, interestingly progressive, this community inspires the visitor to learn its story, its art, is words and images, unique to this lovely little city. From the rich architectural heritage to public art, galleries and retail one finds local talents showcased from block to block.
