Come to Horst’s for Breakfast and More

March 27, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

When someone wants to meet me for a morning meeting, l always say meet me at Horst’s. Horst & Mary have been on their own for almost 10 years, but Horst has been making outstanding pastries since he landed in Madison many years ago. If you want to satisfy your hankerin’ for something sweet, they open at 5am, Hilltop and Downtown locations, Monday through Saturday. The downtown location, right across the street from Red Pepperoni on West Main, is open until 11:00 A.M. and has restaurant style breakfast. You can order biscuits & gravy, pancakes, eggs and sausage, and my Horst donutspersonal favorite Farmers Omelet with bacon and no potatoes (ok, Kay Lou and Abbie are helping me with my eating habits). Now all the wonderful staff know I always ask for my Dave’s Omelet. There is ample seating Horst omeletfor small groups or in my case, sometimes the group grows to 8 or more. Their collection of miniature village buildings, cuckoo clocks, and nut crackers will keep you busy looking up.

Horst on the hilltop is a busy place, especially on Fridays when the students love to get a donut & milk to eat on the way to school. Mary says they are beginning to make delicious pies and cakes, including German Chocolate Cake, yum. There is also a good selection of homemade cookies. They take requests for large orders and even breads, if you order a day or two in advance. It is great to visit and support our small businesses and as always…ENJOY
