55 Years in “Cahoots”
Artists: Stephen & Karen M. Taylor
She, from Ashland, Ohio, he, from New Haven, Indiana, by Providence they met as student artists at the Fort Wayne Institute, School of Fine Arts. Together, they forged a collaboration that has kept them in “Cahoots” for 55 years. Their path led them to Madison in the fall of 1973, intending to be in the valley for one year only, as Artists-in-the-Schools. That was 46 years ago. They just couldn’t break away. Learn about their story, the community involvement, and how their and their families artistic paths have evolved.
In the “Cahoots” exhibit you will see the progression of their art, as it advanced through each phase on their path. You will see how water-colorist Karen M. quickly became a painter of Historic Madison and the county, and specializing in commissioned house portraits. Meanwhile, Stephen continued perfecting his own painting technique, his “obsession” with old trucks and trains, and his metal sculptures, most of which has departed to private collections.
Come see the exhibit the entire month of September 2019. The History Center has free admittance. Hours: 10:00 – 4:30 p.m.
