Explore the Ohio River Scenic Byway

August 16, 2020 By VisitMadison Leave a Comment

Madison is located along The Ohio River Scenic Byway in southern Indiana, between Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH.  Of course, we think that this is the prettiest part of the Byway.

A trip along the Byway is your gateway to adventure. Discover antique shops, artist studios, and farm markets. Paddle a canoe, explore a cave, or camp under the stars. Tour stately mansions, sample artisan wines, and stay at a bed & breakfast. Try your luck at a casino. With 302 miles of scenic roadway to explore, take a journey along the river and into the heartland. You can find everything along the Byway.

With breathtaking vistas, scenic river drives, and beautiful forests, the Ohio River Scenic Byway offers gorgeous landscapes and exciting outdoor adventures all year round.

You’ll find plenty of family friendly experiences along the Byway; a zoo & botanical garden, a theme park, a children’s museum, and even a chance to meet Santa.  Adventure seekers will love the variety of state parks, racing, snow skiing & snowboarding, caves and even a zip line.

For the more laid back, meander the Byway through small towns filled with great shops & restaurants, historic sites to tour, award winning regional wines to taste and stunning scenic views.  Art lovers will be surprised at the variety of local artists and craftsmen all along the route: explore the galleries and studios all along the way.  You’ll also find theater, music and many annual events.

Madison’s riverfront is a great place to spend some time river watching.  In Madison, alone, you’ll find Clifty Falls Sate Park, wineries, breweries, artists/craftsmen, historic sites, antiques, specialty shops, restaurants/cafes and fun events.  So…you should really plan to stay in Madison for a couple of days during your Byway adventure.
