Art is an important part of the Madison experience. There are 5 galleries filled with local & regional art representing diverse artistic styles and many of our local stores, restaurants and wineries feature changing exhibits throughout the year.
Whenever we have the chance, we like to showcase our artists and craftsmen during festivals and special events. Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art is southern Indiana’s premier open-air juried fine arts & crafts show held on the last full weekend of September. RiverRoots Music & Folk Art Festival in May features a “Craft Village” of traditional and historic arts and crafts with artists and craftspeople actively making and demonstrating their wares – everything from spinning and weaving to carving and glass blowing.
Our newest art venue is Rembrandt’s Gallery & Wine Bar where you can relax with fine wines and lite fare in a gallery setting.

Madison Arts & Cultural Tour & Map
Madison has long been a tourism destination known for its natural and built beauty, boasting over 200 years of historic architecture; tree lined streets-capes, a lively commercial district, walk-able neighborhoods, colorful gardens, and assortment of artistic offerings, and events. It is an inspirational place. It is the combination of the old and new that makes the Madison Arts and Cultural District unique. Beautifully preserved, historic in nature, but interestingly progressive and contemporary, it has the fresh vibe of residents who are choosing to live ‘off the grid’ in a rural yet, urban setting. The natural and built environment invites those from all over and inspires the artist to tell the story with their art, their words, and images that are unique to this lovely little city.
Come see why we are ONE OF only TEN Indiana Arts & Cultural Districts in the state. From public parks, museums, galleries and studios, public art, wineries, breweries and confectioneries; businesses with art exhibits; to many more assets in our National Historic Landmark District.
