Rev Ready Roads

Explore Southern Indiana’s scenic beauty responsibly. Whether you're cruising in a car or riding a motorcycle, we want your journey through our winding roads and charming towns to be safe and unforgettable. Make sure you’re ready for the curves ahead. Check current roadway conditions and traffic reports. Know where to get parts, repair, service or even a whole new ride.

For All Drivers & Riders

  • Know the Route: Study the trail ahead of time. The Serpent of 62 includes tight curves, changing elevations, and limited visibility in some areas.

  • Obey Posted Speed Limits: Many curves have advisory speeds for a reason: slow down and enjoy the ride.

  • Keep Right on Curves: Avoid drifting into the opposite lane on blind corners. Stay in your lane at all times.

  • Watch for Wildlife: Rural areas often mean deer, raccoons, and other animals, especially during dawn and dusk.

  • Mind the Weather: Rain or fog can make roads slick and reduce visibility: check forecasts and drive accordingly.

  • Plan Fuel Stops: Cell service can be spotty in areas. Map out fuel and rest stops in advance.

  • Share the Road: Respect slower traffic, cyclists, and large farm equipment. Pass only when legal and safe.

Special Safety Tips for Motorcyclists

  • Gear Up: Always wear a DOT-approved helmet, protective jacket, gloves, boots, and eye protection.

  • Inspect Your Bike: Check tire pressure, brakes, lights, and fluids before hitting the trail.

  • Ride in Formation: If in a group, stagger your formation and maintain a safe following distance.

  • Use Both Brakes: Especially important on hills and curves.

  • Be Visible: Wear reflective gear and use headlights, even during the day.

  • Avoid Fatigue: Take breaks often, hydrate, and don’t push through if you’re tired.

Tips for Drivers Sharing the Road with Motorcyclists

  • Look Twice: Especially at intersections and when changing lanes.

  • Don’t Tailgate: Motorcycles can stop faster than cars; keep a safe distance.

  • Use Your Signals: Clearly signal lane changes and turns.

  • Give Full Lane Width: Motorcycles need the entire lane to maneuver safely.

Trail-Specific Tips

  • Serpent of 62: Expect sharp switchbacks, scenic overlooks, and limited guardrails; ride with caution.

  • Reverie Roads: Watch for local traffic entering/exiting hidden driveways and take it slow through historic downtown districts.

Distraction-Free Driving

  • No Phones While Driving: Pull over to take photos, check your map, or answer a call. This trail deserves your full attention.

  • Download Maps: Navigation apps may lose signal; offline maps or a printed guide are recommended.
