Summer in Madison can be whatever you want it to be. Whether you are looking for a family getaway, romantic escape, girl time or get away from it all, Madison is a good choice. The family & kids enjoy spending time at Clifty Falls State Park, exploring the trails, learning new things at the Discovery Center, swimming, hiking or biking. Choose from family camping or stay at Clifty Inn.
For a romantic escape, choose a B&B, local wines, handmade artisan chocolates, evening carriage ride, and even locally made bath & body products. Add dinner at one of Madison’s popular restaurants, top off the evening with a nightcap and feel the love.
Girlfriends can rent a guest cottage or B&B, shop Madison’s Main Street Mile, tour the Lanier Mansion – Madison’s Crown Jewel, try a wine tasting at one or all of 3 wineries, listen to live evening entertainment (sometimes you can sing along), share cocktails and nibbles. Rent the Madison Trolley for a historic tour or pub crawl.
Just get away from everything/everybody at a guest house or cabin in the woods, find a spot on the riverfront and watch the world go by, hike the Heritage Trail for a challenge and some great views, visit a couple historic sites and contemplate life in the 1800s, wander Big Oaks Wildlife Refuge – commune with nature, go fishing or play golf. It’s your time, do whatever you want.
What not to miss? Rockin’ Thunder Jet Boat Rides. Try the 15 mile Rockin’ Ride for the thrill seeker in everyone. Rocket through spins, slides, fishtails and more as you experience what only Jet Boats can do. Get splashed, get drenched, have great Rockin music and BIG fun. Take the evening Scenic Ride and experience two of America’s great rivers. This 2 hour, 40 mile tour takes you up the Ohio River to Carrollton KY then up the Kentucky River to lock #1 built in 1838. Your friendly Coast Guard licensed Captain will point out historic locations, share river stories and help spot wildlife like Bald Eagles, Osprey, Deer and more. On Saturday night only, join the fun on the 57 mile round trip Dinner Ride to Jo Jo’s Bar and Grill.
If you like beautiful views, a walk along the Milton Madison Bridge from Madison to Milton Kentucky is a must. The pedestrian walkway is just under a mile long and offers great picture taking views and unusual perspectives. It is like standing right above the middle of the Ohio River.
