When is the last time you took the kids on a fun weekend trip?

Madison is the place to be if you’re looking for a fun family getaway. There is something for kids of all ages (and those young at heart)!

Start your day off with some adventure hiking in Clifty Falls State Park, swing by a local restaurant to refuel, then head over for a round mini golf. Put the cherry on top of your trip and end the evening with a sweet treat from one of our several local candy or ice cream shops!

Need a break? Stop by Playhouse Cafe on Madison’s hilltop for coffee or lunch while the kiddos play at their indoor playground.

It wouldn’t be a true family trip to Madison without a visit to McWhiggin’s Wonder Emporium! This must-see shop has something for everyone in the family, but your little ones are sure to be amazed!

Another opportunity to keep exploring the outdoors on your trip is to head to the nearby Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge to earn the Junior Refuge Manager Badge. Pick up a booklet and complete activities including word searches, scavenger hunts, drawing and more to earn your badge. Learn about the Refuge history, plants, animals, and management activities on Big Oaks NWR. It will be fun for the whole family. Booklets can be picked up at the gatehouse. They also have a backpack with field guides, magnifying glasses and binoculars that can be borrowed. Check open days and times. Please note that if it is your first time at the refuge you will want to allow extra time for a safety briefing (including a 20-minute video).
