Plein Air at Music in the Park

Plein Air at Music in the Park
July 12, 2012 Visit Madison

It’s becoming a regular event here in Madison. A crowd of locals gather around the Broadway fountain with their lawn chairs for “Music in the Park” each month. This month’s “Music in the Park” (Friday July 13) will have a few extras. These locals will set up easels with canvas, or a sketch pad with pastels, ink or maybe, graphite.

They are using this event as an opportunity to get some unique sketches and paintings of the fountain, complete with a crowd and a band. The festive environment should make for some nice pieces.

This plein air event is organized by Teresa Waller and Bob Saueressig in affiliation with the Madison Art Club. I’m sure many of these artists will be from the “Tuesday Night Drawing Club,” which features live model drawings every Tuesday night at the West Street Art Center. The club recently went “plein air” at the River Roots Festival, drawing whoever wanted to sit for them out in the sun while enjoying the music.

The artists will start setting up at 6pm and the music starts 7pm. The organizers encourage anyone interested to attend and paint or draw.

So if you make it to the fountain to this month’s “Music in the Park” be sure to take notice of these talented local artists and have a peek over their shoulders to see what they’re working on!

I hope to see you there.
