Christmas Cheer from the Old World: Traditional music from Spain and France
December 10, 2017 @ 2:00 pm
$5.00On December 10, the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site will present a holiday concert, Christmas Cheer from the Old World: Traditional music from Spain and France.
Guests will enjoy an intimate afternoon in the elegant atmosphere of the Lanier Mansion parlors, listening to music and stories from the old world. Tomás Lozano and Erica Rubis will share Christmas songs, ballads and festive traditional dance tunes, sung and played on guitar, treble, bass viol and the rarely-heard hurdy-gurdy – a stringed instrument that sounds similar to a violin.
Lozano is an instrumentalist, vocalist and composer born in Barcelona, Spain, and raised between southern Spain and Catalonia. Rubis is a versatile performer on the viola da gamba, whose work ranges from renaissance viol consort to improvising and co-creating new music.
The concert will begin at 2 p.m., and admission is $5 per person. Seating is limited, and reservations are recommended. Reservations can be made by calling Gerry Reilly, Lanier Mansion State Historic Site manager, at (812) 273-0556.
