On the second Saturday of the month, May through October, visit St. Michael the Archangel for a guided tour at 10 AM. The tour will last approximately an hour. Some stairs will be required but can be limited if needed.
St. Michael the Archangel was built as a Catholic Church with the first mass being held on December 22, 1839. It remained a church until the parishes of Madison were consolidated in 1993. Historic Madison, Inc. has cared for the building for the last 30 years. Although the space is no longer a church, many artifacts connecting to the church are still present. The building also includes an 1895 Tracker Organ and unique art glass stained glass windows. St. Michael the Archangel is one of the oldest buildings created as a Catholic church in Indiana. It is also the oldest Gothic Revival-styled building in the state of Indiana. Come for a tour to learn more about this unique space and the people connected to it!
No reservations are required. Please meet your guide outside the building a few minutes before the tour begins.
Tickets are $10 per adult. Students and kids are free. Please pay when you arrive for the tour. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Private tours and group tours are also available but must be scheduled in advance.
Please call the HMI office at 812-265-2967 or message us if you have questions.
