October 12, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

Join us on October 12th, 2018, for a WWI Medal of Honor Centennial Celebration to honor one of Jefferson County’s own and Indiana’s only Medal of Honor recipient in WWI, Major Samuel Woodfill. The event will take place exactly 100 years to the day when Woodfill’s actions earned him the Medal of Honor. A bronze bust of Samuel Woodfill, sculpted by local artist Donna Weaver, will be unveiled at the event, where it will permanently reside.

The WWI Medal of Honor Centennial Celebration will be held at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery and is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. We invite all veterans, the Jefferson County community, and all to join us in this special celebration. All visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Stay after the program for complimentary Horst’s donuts provided by the Salvation Army of Madison, and coffee from Joseph DeVito, Regional Director of Indiana DVA and Master of Ceremonies. This event is rain or shine, and should last to about 6:30 p.m.
