Madison Goes National

Madison Goes National
February 21, 2013 Visit Madison

About a year ago, a local citizen was trolling the National Park Service website and noticed some really wonderful communities throughout the US represented on the site. These Travel Itineraries were really well done and offered a wealth of information. A phone call to Washington started the ball rolling and now about a year later, Madison, Indiana Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary is one of those great communities. The site features the Madison Historic District and highlights 40 historic places and neighborhoods within the district as well as important and interesting destinations to see close by. It is loaded with information, images, maps, and essays.

The National Park Service’s Heritage Education Services and Midwest Regional Office History and National Historic Landmarks Program produced this travel itinerary, in partnership with the City of Madison and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. Historic Madison, Inc, Visit Madison and others provided info and pictures for the site. A couple of interns spent time in Madison researching, photographing and writing the text.

The Madison itinerary is the 56th in the online Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary series. The itinerary is available on the National Park Service website at http://www.nps.gov/history/nr/travel/madison/.
