Storytime on Main Street

Storytime on Main Street

Sometimes a nice bookstore corner on a winter morning is just the ticket. That opportunity exists for even the very young. Once a month at Village Lights Bookstore, it’s “Fourth Monday Kids’ Storytime.”

Local writer and mom Jill Kelly-Koren reads to the children at 11 am on the last Monday of every month. This week it was listener’s choice as Jill let each child choose a book for her to read; they were so well received that the children continued choosing more for her to read. This led to quite the variety of authors. Selections included: Curious George, Where’s Spot, Corduroy and To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street.

The reading has been a part of the bookstore schedule for a long time, and had started out as a “bedtime” reading. However, it seems like the morning time slot is a better fit for
parents of small children.

The reading is appropriate for children ages 0 through elementary ages, and the selections are tailored to fit the ages of the children. There is no sign up required and there is no fee. The owners of the bookstore Nathan Montoya and Anne Vestuto along with their famous cats, Oscar Wilde and Grrrtrude Stein, consistently show that this business place is also a community-gathering place where all ages can appreciate literature and art.
