Live Cigar Box Blues with Jimmy Davis

Live Cigar Box Blues with Jimmy Davis
June 26, 2013 Visit Madison

The cigar box guitar has an interesting history, which dates back to the era of the Civil War. These homemade instruments were a part of the larger history of blues and jug band music. Interest in these guitars has grown in recent years and local artisan Gary Duckworth and fine artist Eric Phagan are part of this revolution. In a unique collaboration of talent, Gary and Eric’s newest creation, hand painted by Eric, will debut as local blues musician Jimmy Davis shows us how it’s done.

Cigar box playing can be heard from 6:30 to 8 pm at Gallery 115, 115 E. Main Street, this Friday. June 28th.

The gallery will be serving wine from Madison Vineyards as well as their usual fare of soups, salads, sandwiches, coffee, tea, and most importantly, their incredible desserts. The atmosphere at Gallery 115 can best be describes as vintage with a cozy feel. The homemade food makes one feel at home and the art and performances there are world-class.

The performance, “Live Cigar Box Blues” is a special event because it is the official launch of a new business, Cigar Box Guitars, and their first official cigar box guitar will be for sale.

This special night at Gallery 115 coincides with Madison’s Fourth Friday Art Jam. I am sure that my family and I will be on Main Street enjoying all its charms and we won’t miss the cigar box guitar-playing by someone who really knows what do with one!

Come and enjoy the music, art, food, and atmosphere of Madison’s 4th Friday Art Jam and don’t forget to stop in Gallery 115 for a special treat.
