Scare-Free Haunts: Local Historian Brings Madison’s History to Life
October 25, 2013 Visit Madison

Local history lovers, like Autumn Kruer of A Step Back in Time, bring a voice to times of old. Kruer offers a Sundown at the Graveyard tour by candlelight that includes some of the history of the people who helped create Madison as well as the meanings behind the various engravings on the monuments.

“I have always been a big history buff,” says Kruer. “I like finding out who the people were and sharing the information to help people get in touch with our history. As Americans, it is important to remember where we came from.”

Other tours include By Moonlight on the River and Haunted Historic Tavern Pub Crawl. The river tour takes a journey back in time and find out about the adventures, charges, crime, and legends that happened along what once was the highway into the heartland. For adults only, the tavern tour takes you on a journey through Madison stopping at three historic taverns complete with their own histories and ghost stories. Appetizers are included at two of the taverns on tour.

Group sizes can range between 6 to 30 people and require a deposit upfront. To schedule your tour, contact the Madison Visitor Center at (812) 265-2956.
